LAHORE - Pakistan's tennis ace Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, pairing with Tomasz Bednarek of Poland, made it to the final of the doubles event at the Baden Open in Germany on Friday. The Pakistani-Polish pair, seeded second, were made to work hard for their Final berth by the Ukrainian-Russian duo of Sergei Bubka and Denis Matsukevich, who were themselves seeded fourth. After a fairly routine first set score of 6-3, in favour of Aisam and Bednarek, their opponents came to life in the second. In a display of strong determination, Bubka and Matsukevich held their own, while constantly pressurizing their opponent's service game. Aisam and Bednarek found themselves staring at a long match when they were a set point down on their own serve at 4-5. However, the pair held their nerve to not just save the game, but to go on and break their opponents in the very next game, thus leading 6-5. The tide was turned and Aisam and Co was the set and the match out eventually 7-5. In the Final, they will face the winner of a match between Germans Mayer and Meigel and the German-Australian pair of Philipp Marx and former Pakistan Junior player Rameez Junaid. In route to the Final, Aisam and Tomasz beat Richardas Berankis and Oliver Strecker in the first round and Spaniards Pere Riba and Miguel Angel Lopez Jaen in the quarter-final.
