LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting to review law and order situation here on Saturday. Advisor Jehanzeb Burki, Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, Home Secretary, Secretary Information, Capital City Police Officer Lahore besides concerned senior officers attended the meeting. The meeting discussed in detail number of proposals with regard to security arrangements and further improving the police performance. Addressing the meeting Shahbaz Sharif said the Elite Force had been established ten years ago for elimination of terrorism and heinous crimes, but later it was assigned various other duties due to which its performance was affected badly. He directed that the same standard of elite force should be maintained and its performance should be improved keeping in view the demands of present situation. The elite force should not only be imparted training on modern lines for elimination of terrorism and heinous crimes but it should also be equipped with modern weapons so that it could play its fullest role for protection of life and property of the people and maintenance of law and order in the province, he added. Chief Minister said the inspection system in the police should be evolved for examining the performance of the officers and officials at every level and senior police officers should visit their respective areas regularly. He said effective accountability system in the police should also be evolved and all officers and officials should be made answerable about their performance. He said any negligence and laxity would not be tolerated in the present circumstances. He also paid homage to the police officers, officials and people of civil society who embraced martyrdom during suicidal attack in Lahore and other such incidents. He said that at present police was facing a great challenge but he was sure that Punjab Police would meet this challenge effectively. Inspector General Police and Home Secretary informed the meeting about the security arrangements and law and order situation.
