ISLAMABAD - In another move to win over the people of Balochistan, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has announced Rs 50 billion PSDP fund for the province for the next financial year, which is Rs 8 billion more than the allocation of the last fiscal year. Chairing the meeting of Balochistan cabinet here at PM Secretariat, Premier Gilani has said that the government is fully committed to address the sense of deprivation among the people of Balochistan. Besides cabinet members, Governor Balochistan Zulfiqar Ali Magsi, Chief Minister Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani and Deputy Chairman Senate Jan Mohammad Jamali were also in attendance. The Prime Minister also announced that current financial years unspent amount of PSDP funds of Balochistan worth Rs 21 billion would not lapse and would be made available to the province during the next financial year. He announced packages worth Rs 9 billion for Balochistan comprising Rs 3 billion as Quetta package, Rs 3 billion for budgetary support and Rs 3 billion for the development schemes to be identified by the members of the Balochistan Assembly. Thus the total development outlay available to the province in the next financial year would come to Rs 80 billion in addition to the funds allocated to the MNAs and senators for development projects in their constituencies. The Prime Minister said that his government attached high priority to redressing the grievances of the people of Balochistan and had decided that the entire political leadership of the province would be taken on board including the parliamentary leadership to resolve decades old outstanding issues of the province. The Prime Minister further said that issues related to Balochistan needed immediate attention, therefore a special committee had already been formed to work out modalities for developing broader consensus by taking all stakeholders on board towards permanent resolution of the problems. He said he had already called a meeting of the PPP Balochistan Provincial Executive Committee in Islamabad on June 5, 2009 in order to take the provincial party on board in the wake of preparation for convening an All Parties Conference. The meeting will be attended by the provincial office-bearers of PPP, divisional presidents and heads of partys affiliated wings as well as members of the Central Executive Committee and Federal Council from Balochistan, besides the Chief Minister Balochistan. The Prime Minister said that various modalities for speedy socio-economic development of Balochistan for bringing the province at par with other provinces were underway and expressed the confidence that these new initiatives would greatly help address the concerns of the people. The Prime Minister said the government firmly believed that progress and prosperity of Balochistan was the prosperity of the country, therefore it would employ all its resources to remove backwardness of Balochistan and ensure provision of job opportunities to its youth. Appreciating Prime Ministers announcement regarding enhancement of PSDP funds and various other packages, the delegation extended its full support to the federal government. They also lauded the Prime Ministers initiative for convening PPP Balochistan Provincial Executive Committee and hoped that it would go a long way to bring about a sea change in the lives of the people of the province. Other members of the delegation included Balochistan Ministers, Maulana Abdul Wasay, Asim Kurd, Syed Ehsan Shah, Engr Zamrak Khan, Sardar Sanaullah Khan Zehri, Capt (Retd) Abdul Khaliq, Mir Shahnawaz Marri, Haji Muhammad Khan, Mir Abdur Rehman Mengal, Mir Hamal Kalmati, Parveen Magsi and Rubina Irfan, and MPA Sh Jaffar Khan Mandokhel. Chief Secretary Balochistan and Secretary Finance Balochistan were also present during the meeting. APP adds: About the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, Gilani said the government was serious in its implementation at the earliest. He also dispelled the impression that Balochistan Assembly would be dissolved and said the country was passing through a critical juncture and could not afford such adventures. He said like the previous year, the government would try to provide Rs 5 million each to members of the National Assembly.
