The recent political build-up in Swat has sparked a debate on the role of religion in running of the state. This has caught some moderates on the wrong foot since they believed that the issue had been resolved earlier on. The liberal secularists have responded by resorting to discouraging any meaningful and rational debate on this critical matter. The newspapers are flooded with articles with the idea of imposing a certain kind of life style on the masses. The media has not really given any space to the enlightened Islamic ideologists who can plead their case rationally and present Islam as a realistic solution to all the current problems of Pakistan. -FAHEEM MARKHAND, Khairpur, via e-mail, May 18.
