Recently I was buying fruit from a fruit vendor whom I asked that what was the going rate for 'Anwar Ratol', a popular brand of mangoes. He said it was Rs. 80 per kilo. The price of 'Leechi' was Rs. 300 per kilo. I was shocked to hear these prices. I am wonder-struck how somebody who earns Rs 200-Rs 300 a day can buy fruit? After this democratic government took over 2 years ago, inflation has gone up considerably. I appeal to the government that fruit should also be made available in Utility Stores at subsidized prices so that the poor people can also enjoy having fruit. -MUBASHIR MAHMOOD, Karachi, May 27.
