Security loopholes threat to court staff

LAHORE Security loopholes at the sessions, district and lower courts have become a permanent security threat to judges, lawyers, court staff and others including litigants visiting courts in routine for their purposes, TheNation has learnt. The recently incident at Sessions court was one of its examples as two unidentified armed men on Saturday last entered in the court of additional district and sessions judge Haji Ahmad and opened fire on their rivals namely Zeeshan and Ali Imran (two brothers), resultantly, they breathed their last at the court premises. Later, the killers managed to flee the scene. An FIR had registered against two police officials including ASI Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Buksh under Police Order 2002 (155-C) for showing negligence during duty. When contacted the courts staff to know about the story, they said requesting anonymity that the above mentioned booked officials tried to put the matter of entry of the unidentified armed persons at the security officials deployed at the back gate near to the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge. But camera recording did not show the entry of such armed persons through the back gate, on which the case was registered against Iqbal and Muhammad Buksh, they added. Court sources revealed that police authorities concerned and District and Sessions Judge should not ignore the applications as forwarded by the ASI Iqbal and other security officials regarding the enhancement of the security officials to guard the premises of the court in a better way. When contacted the superintendent of additional district and sessions judge to know that whether security lapses were underlined in any meeting of the Judge with lawyers representatives or SP Security and CCPO Lahore before the Saturdays incident? He responded that being his new appointment he did not know about the matter except the meeting of his boss (Judge) with SCBA president Asima Jahangir, LBA president Shahzad Hassan Sheikh, CCPO Lahore on Saturday after the incident. But LBA president Shahzad Hassan Sheikh told this scribe that before the occurrence of the above said incident, his (Shahzad) three meetings had been held with DSP Anarkali, DSP special branch concerned, SP Traffic and the meeting attended by the officials was also headed by the Commissioner Lahore Division. Shahzad disclosed that he had informed the participants of the meeting that there was dire need of sufficient and suitable security officials, walk-through gates, security gadgets, barriers and fool-proof boundary walls to guard the court premises. Responding to a question he said that no doubt the booked police officials showed negligence but it was also not fair to put all the responsibility of the incident on these two cops. He said the authorities concerned were also responsible for the incident. Sheikh further said that a 'security committee comprising of judges was also constituted to point out the security needs to avoid any untoward incident in court premises.
