New York: Tom Cruise has revealed he was so keen to do his own stunts even as a child that he was often in hospital after trying to copy Evel Knievel.
The Edge Of Tomorrow star appears on Graham Norton's chat show tonight (May 30), where he explained he had suffered one particularly bad injury in his younger days. He said: ‘I saw Evel Knievel jumping off a canyon and I lived on a steep hill so I set up boards and trash cans to copy him. I was about eight years old and my sisters begged me not to do it, as I had been to the hospital a few times by this point.
‘I realised half way down the hill that I couldn't stop and it was too late to bail - I was committed and I thought, 'I'm going to go so far and so high.' ‘But of course the boards split and I ended up just pile-driving through the cans.–BFT
It was violent and there was blood everywhere.’ Top Gun star Tom said of his family's reaction: ‘My sisters were standing over me with no sympathy, just saying, 'We told you. You're in so much trouble.' My poor mother, she was very patient.’
Graham's guests also include Coldplay, who admitted some members of the band weren't quite as recognisable as frontman Chris Martin. Chris said: ‘Jonny (Buckland) and Will (Champion) were backstage at the Grammys and a woman came up to them and asked if we were doing the catering.’ The Graham Norton Show is on BBC One at 10.35pm tonight.
