ISLAMABAD - Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Friday said that the government would fulfil all international obligations as required under the law in connection with Imran Farooq murder case.

The Metropolitan Police in UK has recently got published the photographs of two suspected in the murder of MQM leader Dr Imran Farooq asking Pakistan to help it trace these persons.

The minister expressed these remarks during his meeting with British High Commissioner Philip Barton who called on him here on Friday. The meeting discussed the overall security situation in the region.

The High Commissioner emphasized that contrary to what is being propagated in certain sections of Pakistan, the government of Great Britain has absolutely no role in the investigations of this murder case. The courts and Metropolitan Police in UK were independent in ongoing investigation and its scope, he added.   

He praised the commitment of government in establishing lasting peace in the region. He said UK was ready to provide all kind of support in implementing National Internal Security Policy of Pakistan.

He also highlighted the areas like counter terrorism, counter human and drug trafficking where UK could play even more effective role by enhancing the capacity of Pakistan’s civil armed forces through institutional support and specialized training.

Expressing views on bilateral relations between Pakistan and UK, the minister said that both countries enjoyed special relations as a result of which the mutual cooperation in different areas was getting stronger with the passage of time.

Nisar said that close Pakistan-UK relations could play very important role in the developing geo-political scenario of the region. The peace in Afghanistan is a key to peace in entire region and Pakistan will continue to work closely with the new Afghan government for establishing lasting peace in the region, he added.

In a separate meeting with Chief Minister Balochistan Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch, the minister discussed with him the overall political and security situation of the Balochistan province.

The minister appreciated the steps taken by the Balochistan Government and law enforcing agencies in bringing about considerable improvement in overall security of the province.

Nisar said that government was providing necessary resources for upgrading security apparatus especially in Balochistan. He said that an exclusive meeting of heads of all civil armed forces, security agencies and IGs of all provinces including Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, was called at POF Wah yesterday and pressed upon them for patronizing state assets and institutions.
