UNITED NATIONS - The United Nations has criticised the move by Pakistani authorities to bar women from voting in the local bodies elections in some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, saying they are an integral part of democracy.

“It is clear that whether in Pakistan or anywhere else in the world, women need to vote. They are an integral part of democracy,” the secretary-general’s spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, said in reply to a question at the regular noon briefing.

“Condemning such actions is obvious,” he added.
