The Council of Islamic Ideology recently proposed a bill. A bill, supposedly named the Women Protection Bill, but has nothing to do with the protection of women. It merely highlights the male supremacy in our society.
Our mufti sahib is of the belief that women suffer no violence in our society and no incidents of a husband hitting a wife have been reported. Hence, he wants to establish this trend of lightly hitting your wife in cases necessary. Because of all the things in the world, our society needs to focus on the culprit behind all the activities (i.e. of course, women!). And by lightly he only means that you don’t break any bones. Everything that happens otherwise is perfectly acceptable.
The CII has listed down eight situations where you may allow the beast within you to take over and hit your wife. Because talking it out is the false flagging of the West.
1. If she defies his commands
How can you even think that relationships are not based on commands? Relationships do not work out if you exist like normal healthy couples, who decide how they want to live. Commands are necessary. They establish that your weak personality needs to dominate someone in order to satisfy the coward within.
2. If she refuses to dress according to his desires
All that matters are his desires. I am sure many of you have heard this while growing up.
Beti: Ami, I want to wear jeans.
Ami: Apnay miyaan se puch ke karna yeh sab.
Friend 1: Hey you got your nose pierced? It looks amazing. I want to get mine too but I am not sure if my future husband will approve of it.
Friend 2: errr…
Again and again, the idea is reinforced that your entire existence should be in line with this person who may or may not exist in the future. Well, why should the council miss this out?
3. If she turns down the idea of intercourse without any religious reason
Well, what do you know? Men are beasts who cannot accept no for an answer. When they want intercourse; that is what they should get. Because who are you to have an opinion? It is perfectly fine if their ignorant little brains cannot understand the concept of marital rape. And this is not me talking; this is what the council is pointing out.
4. If she does not take a shower after intercourse or menstrual periods
This one is my favorite. I mean how dumb do you think we are? Can’t we decide for ourselves when we need and do not need a bath? Also mufti sahab, don’t we get to check and respond if they don’t take a shower?
5. If she does not wear a hijab
Why do you want to take responsibility of every other aspect of our lives? Don’t you have better things to do? A hijab is a very personal choice. Making someone wear it forcefully will not strengthen their relationship with God. And don’t you realize this? Our society is more focused towards wearing the clothes of religion, rather than actually being good human beings. Let’s not strengthen this hypocrisy.
6. If she interacts with strangers
The world is trying to find evidence of life on other planets and here, talking to a stranger has become a crime. Why limit her interactions? What are you scared of? Others like you? Don’t you see the irony? You are trying to protect her from your own lot. Maybe someone else needs to stay at home now.
7. If she speaks loud enough to be heard by strangers
How did you guys even manage to come up with this one!?
8. If she provides monetary support to people without her husband’s consent
Because you are the man of the house and be it the decision of hiring a new massi or changing the diaper of your child or that maali who needs some cash for his medicines, you should be contacted. We women cannot take such challenging decisions all on our own. Whereas, you may do what so ever you please. The idea of building a relationship together has no meaning in this part of the world.
It is incredibly heart wrenching to see that the council refuses to treat us as individuals; individuals who are rational and can take decisions on their own. Our existence is not and will not be defined by the men of our society. The only reason that we, as a nation, do not progress is because orthodoxy is ingrained in our system. We cannot possibly deny the human progress over the years; we cannot deny that society has changed than what it was about 1400 years ago. Men and women have equal right to live their life as they please. Both are capable of making decisions on their own. Let’s grow out of these orthodox traditions and peacefully co-exist?
