Accountability has become inevitable: Siraj

LAHORE: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has said that the deadlock on the ToR’s for the judicial commission was tantamount to fleeing from accountability.

Addressing the Political Committee of the JI, Punjab, at Mansoora on Tuesday, he said that since the Panama leaks had mentioned the names of the ruling party as also the opposition, there was every possibility that the deadlock on ToR’s would be further extended. He said that accountability was the essence of democracy and the JI wanted an autonomous commission for indiscriminate accountability of everybody.

“We want to break the idol of corruption although some people are worshipping it”, he remarked.

Sirajul Haq said the JI wanted an automatic system of accountability in which a corrupt person, howsoever powerful he may be, has to be in the dock and the impression that the powerful people could escape accountability should end.

The JI chief said the dead lock on the ToRs’ was aimed at creating an impression among the people that in spite of the Panama leaks disclosure, nothing was going to happen and the whole matter would be dead within a few days. He was however confident that this would not happen now and the plunderers would have to account for every penny of the public money.

Meanwhile, the JI chief contacted the Prime Minister’s son Husain Nawaz in London by telephone and enquired about the operation on the PM and his health. He also prayed for the health of the Premier.

Earlier, the JI chief had an important meeting with the Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani in Islamabad and exchanged views with him on the issues concerning the rule of the constitution, the supremacy of the parliament and the strengthening of the institutions. The two leaders underscored the need for making the Parliament the centre of policy making.

The JI Secretary General Liaqat Baloch and JI deputy chief Mian Muhammad Aslam were also present on the occasion. The two sides agreed that the solution of the burning problems of the country and the masses should be expedited and all issues should be brought to the floor of the parliament,
