Woman shot dead for honour

SARGODHA   -  A woman was shot dead for honour in Sahiwal police limimts here on Sunday.

According to police sources, a man named Nasir Malah, resident of Mubhary khan village, shot dead his sister Samreen Bibi in mohalla Fatahabad in Sahiwal . The deceased was mother of two minors.  Police said accused Nasir came on his motorcycle and sped away after firing gunshots at Samreen. The accused suspected his sister had ‘bad character.’

The body of the deceased was shifted to a hospital morgue for autopsy. Police registered a case against the accused.

Two POs arrested

The police arrested two proclaimed offenders (POs) during the last 24 hours in the district.  A police spokesman said here on Sunday that teams of Shahpur and Laksiyan police stations conducted raids in various areas within their jurisdiction and arrested two proclaimed offenders-- Ahmed Khan and Sarwar Ali wanted in dozens of cases of robbery. Further investigation was underway.

Two bike lifters held

Kotmomin police claimed on Sunday to have arrested two bike lifters and recovered 2 motorbikes and Rs363,000 from their possession.

The accused were identified as Zafar Iqbal and Muhammad Ashraf. A case has been registered against the accused.

Construction work on 198 schemes underway 

Punjab Minster for Labour and Manpower Ansar Majeed Khan has said that construction work on 198 schemes of public welfare and regional development  is underway in the district currently.

Chairing the district coordination committee meeting here on Sunday, he said that Rs3.94 billion funds had also been allocated for these schemes. MPAs Chaudhry Faisal Farooq Cheema, Chaudhry Iftikhar Hussain Gondal, Sardar Ghulam Ali Asghar Lashari, Deputy Commissioner Naila Baqir, DPO Zulfiqar Ahmed and officers of the departments concerned were also present.

The meeting was informed that work was underway on 78 schemes of water supply and drainage, 20 schemes of local government, 51 of roads, 19 of buildings, seven of education sector, three schemes of sports, six of health, one of canals, wildlife, archeology and agriculture each. The meeting was also informed that all 60 schemes of phase-I of community development had been completed and 40, out of 78 schemes of phase-II, had also been completed. Work on 64 schemes of phase-III was in progress currently, the meeting was told.
