College principals asked to enhance security

RAWALPINDI - The Commissioner, Zahid Saeed has directed the heads of government colleges to enhance their security by installing CCTV cameras and deputing armed guards at entry gates for the safety of students. He also directed the principals to close rear gates of their respective institutions to avoid any untoward incident. The Commissioner issued these directives in a meeting with the heads of 35 government colleges held at his office here on Friday. Director of Colleges Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf was also present in the meeting. He said that security guards would be deputed on the rooftops of girls colleges to keep a vigil on suspicious persons. He said that all those girls colleges would be remained closed which were receiving threats from the terrorists. He directed the principals of the colleges to issue ID cards to the students and compel direct them to wear school uniform. The heads of colleges appoint any one of teachers as Security in charge, who will brief the students about security matters, he said. The government would financially assist all those colleges facing lacks of funds for making security arraignments, the Commissioner said, adding that the colleges, which have enough funds should install walk through gates. Principals of girls colleges were directed by Zahid Saeed to erect the heights of boundary walls of their respective institutions and depute armed bodyguards with college buses to provide security to the students. He asked the principals not to send letters to the government for the recruitment of employees of grade 1 to 4, rather recruit employees on contracts basis for the time period of three months for security purposes. The Commissioner was of the view that arms licences would be issued by DCO Office to the educational institutions so that security guards equipped with guns could protect the students.
