ISLAMABAD (APP) - Minister for Industries and Production Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo on Friday stressed the need for upgrading technology on modern scientific lines to make the countrys industrial sector competitive in the international markets. He stated this while presiding over a presentation on the performance of the Technology Upgradation and Skill Development Company (TUSDEC) here at his office. The CEO of the Company, Sohail Ahmed briefed the Minister about the performance of the TUSDEC and its future plans. Additional Secretary Ministry of Industries and Production, Ch Abdul Hafeez was also present on the occasion. Mian Manzoor Ahmed Watto lauded the efforts of the Company for updradation and skill development for the prosperity of the country. We are further improving the efficiency and workings of Technology Upgradation and Skill Development Company (TUSDEC), to achieve the desired objective. He added though technology upgradation country can save precious foreign exchange and reduce the import bill by producing the machinery at domestic level. The Minister assured the TUSDEC authorities that the autonomy with regard to administration and marketing of the company would be ensured for its sustainable development. Watto said that govt wanted to equip the youth with skills by imparting them skill development training so that they could be provided job opportunities enabling them to contribute in the socio economic prosperity of the country. He added that organizations like TUSDEC could play an important role in the skill development of the youth in the country. The CEO TUSDEC told the Minister that the company was established in October 2004 with the objectives of setting up need-based common facilities ,design , maintenance ,testing, certification, incubation, dissemination, and skill development centers in the country. The other objectives, he said were to upgrade ,improve and install transfer technologies, promote investment from public and private sectors for skill development, motivate industry to upgrade and propose technology and skill improvements in government and non-government industrial sectors. He added that TUSDEC have established various organizations for technology upgradation and skill development at a cost of Rs. 2.1b, including KTDMC (Karach Tools, Dies and mould centers), SDCs (Skill Development Centers) in quake hit areas of Batagram, Manserhra, Bagh and Muzaffarabad, NIDA (National Institute of Design and Analysis) CAD/CAM Design Centres at Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta Sialkot,and six additional at Bahawalpur, Sargodha, Okara, Larkana, Kasur and Hyderabad. The other centres, he said are CR+ACY-DI (cement Research and Development Institute), GTDMC (Gujranwala Tools Dies and Mould centers, CDTC (Ceramic Development and Training Complex), Engineering Support Centers at Peshawar, Hyderabad and Quetta) Skill mapping (nationwide), FIMH (Federal Institute of Materials and Homologation),SEAS (Senior Experts Advisory Services), Electronic Support Centers . Skill tech International at Lahore, Karachi City and Guilds ,EC UK) and mobile training. He recommended that the TUSDEC be allowed consolidation of GTDMC, CDTC, SkillTech ,ESCs, SDCs, KTMDC,PITAC and FIMD,Electronics CFL Composites etc.
