PESHAWAR - Accountability Court No IV Peshawar announced its verdict in two references filed by NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and awarded five years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 39.042 million to Abdul Qayyum Marwat, ex-XEN Works & Services Department, Mardan, in a misuse of authority case.

In one case, the accused during posting as XEN C&W Deptt at Mardan utilized million of rupees out of public money placed at his disposal under the programme titled “Expansion and Development Programme for Primary Education in KP” for supply and fixing steel grill/ railing to the primary schools in Mardan costing Rs 3200 million. The contract was awarded to the contractor by the accused at exorbitant rates without seeking administrative approval from the competent authority, thus causing a loss of Rs 47.648 million.

In another case of misuse of authority, the accused misappropriated Govt funds meant for the repair and maintenance work in various schools in District Mardan thus causing a loss of Rs 1.277 million to the National Exchequer.  The other accused persons in the cases have already paid the embezzled amount in the exchequer through Voluntary Return (VR) and Plea Bargain (PB).

NAB had filed two separate references of misuse of authority in Accountability court. The court decided both the references in favour of NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the accused was arrested and sent to central Prison Peshawar.
