PPP, PML-Q to focus energies on polls in Punjab: Wattoo

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan People’s Party, Central Punjab, President Mian Manzoor Wattoo Tuesday said the nitty-gritty of seat adjustment and other matters relating to the next general elections with Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) were settled and both the parties would focus their energies on elections in Punjab.Addressing a press conference after meeting the Rawalpindi chapter of the party here on Tuesday, Federal Minister for Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs Mian Manzoor Wattoo said that elections in Punjab would decide about the future rulers of the country and that was the reason that they were evolving a joint strategy with PML-Q to win these elections. He said his nomination as PPP Central Punjab President with Tanvir Ashraf Kaira as his Secretary General was widely hailed and all the party MPs from Punjab had welcomed the move. He said that this change in PPP Punjab Chapter has given new hope to the party workers and activists and announced that he along with his team would not disappoint the workers, especially he would stretch out to those workers who turned dormant due to leadership’s indifference. He further said that Punjab comprises 62 per cent of the whole of the country so all the winner from Punjab would hold the rein of power and announced that he would turn the tide in favour of the party in Punjab. Dispelling the impression of any difference with Q-League leadership, Mian Manzoor Wattoo said he would soon be meeting them to give final touches to elections strategy, as both the parties would be going hands-in-hands in upcoming general elections. To a question, he said that the seat-adjustment formula with Q-League was already finalised and now they would have to just put the plan in action and move forward. To another question, he said that he never remained the diehard worker of Pakistan People’s Party and had joined PPP after winning 2008 general elections as independent candidate. He said that his main target would be reinvigorating the party at grass-root level in coming days and to make the basic unit of the party strong and vibrant before the next general elections. He further said that the veteran party workers would be duly accommodated and the workers who have certain reservations with the party leadership would also be adequately addressed.Mian Manzoor Wattoo said that in the meeting with party workers they had discussed the matters concerning the PP-1 to PP-27 were discussed and soon he would be moving to other parts of the province to have firsthand knowledge of their problems.
