PESHAWAR - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Tuesday announced 25 to 30 per cent reduction in intra-district transport charges, following reduction in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices upon the directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan.

In this connection, KPK Regional Transport Authority (RTA) formally issued a notification to reduce inter-district transport charges. According to which, the reduction is from 25 per cent to 30 per cent in inter-district fare charges.

Issuing the notification on Tuesday afternoon, the RTA said that the transportation charges from Peshawar to Dera Ismail Khan have been reduced from Rs 353 to Rs 252, and to Swat district have been shortened from Rs181 to Rs129.

Moreover, the RTA also reduced transportation charges from Peshawar to Malakand with the same ratio, as earlier transporters charged Rs145 which has now been reduced to Rs103. similarly, for Dir district the traveling charges to Peshawar will be Rs 188 instead of Rs 262.

Talking to media persons, RTA KPK Secretary Transport Syed Naseem Shah said that inter-city transportation charges remained unchanged, adding that those found violating the new inter-district fare list, will be dealt with iron hands. He said that fares have been lowered just because of decease in CNG following SC directives.

However, travelers from one city to another complained that still transporters were charging old fare. They said that government and authorities concerned must conduct surprised visits to transport terminals and see the situation, they added.
