LAHORE - The distribution of wheat and canola seeds to the eligible farmers in Thal Canal command area of district Layyah and Muzaffargarh free of cost will continue till November 7.
Small farmers, having land up to five acres, are being provided the seed by the provincial government through Punjab Irrigation Department, a senior official of the Irrigation department told APP here.
He said that as many as 37,740 small farmers of 703 villages in these two districts will be provided around 100,000 wheat seed bags (50 kg each bag) and 5,000 canola oilseed packets (1 kg each packet) for Rabi crop 2013-14.
The seed distribution is a component of Social Development Action Plan of Jinnah Barrage Rehabilitation & Modernization (Phase-II) Project.
The farmers of 703 villages of two districts (533 villages of Layyah and 170 villages of Kot Addu Tehsil of district Muzaffargarh) will be benefitting from this scheme. More than 7000 eligible farmers have so far been provided with above 50,000 wheat seed bags and 2,051 canola oilseed packets.
It is the second phase of seed distribution activity which was started from October 07, 2013.
The large number of seed bags were already distributed in the first phase which was held in the year 2012, he added.
