Mafia parking lots of problems

LAHORE - Unallocated parking lots have been set up on busy roads in the provincial capital, courtesy to corruption culture.
Such parking lots have also been adding to traffic troubles while authorities concerned have been taking bribe form contractors.
In the name of ‘secure’ parking, private hospitals, educational institutes, shopping malls, offices and hotels/restaurants have encroached on busy routes such as Ferozpur Road, Waris Road, Queens Road, Jail Road, The Mall and Hall Road.
An official said on anonymity that land mafia is behind the mess. He said influential people step into to restrain anti-encroachment squad them from taking action against land grabbers. Authorities concerned issues press statement whenever such issue is flashed.
People deployed at the parking places say private contractors hired them to charge fee. Abdul Razaq, an employee at a parking lot at Hall Road told this scribe that the stand was “owned by the office-bearers of Hall Road Union”.
He said said he was employee of these persons. Despite repeated attempts, officials concerned could not reach to comment on the issue.
