A traffic warden and an alleged dacoit were killed in a shootout between police and the outlaws near Sabzi Mandi on Wednesday.

The martyred warden namely Muhammad Shahbaz received bullets during a bid to hold the dacoits while accused Amir Waseem Bhutta was shot dead when police retaliated.

Police said that five armed dacoits robbed the house of one Rashid Bokhari in Bismillah Colony near Grid Station and fled. A motorcycle squad of New Multan police located five suspicious persons riding two motorbikes and tried to stop them. “The martyred warden intercepted the dacoits on which they opened fire on him. The police party chasing them also retaliated the fire as a result of which one of them was killed while others fled,” police sources added.

The police also arrested another accused namely Allah Bukhsh alias Mama while raids were being conducted to catch the remaining outlaws. Police also recovered two pistols and a motorbike from the dacoits. The motorbike was snatched from a citizen from the area of Shah Rukan-e-Alam police three days back. Meanwhile, the namaz-e-janaza of the martyr was offered here police lines and he was laid to rest in a local cemetery.
