Nizami’s services matchless: Sarwar

| Rs50,000 for heirs of Pakistan Movement workers each

LAHORE - The services rendered by late Dr Majid Nizami for the Pakistan Movement, journalism and the ideology of Pakistan were matchless.
These views were expressed by Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar while addressing a cheque distribution ceremony held at the Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i-Pakistan by the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust in collaboration with the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust. Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust Chairman Rafique Tarar chaired the sitting.
A cheque of Rs 50,000 is going to be presented to the Pakistan Movement workers or their descendants each, Ch Sarwar said. They were the loyal and dedicated followers of the Father of the Nation, who faced the brunt of the British oppression and Hindu prejudice, he added.
The governor pointed out that highly meritorious services rendered by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif who took a keen interest in the welfare and well-being of these benefactors of the nation. Among other humanitarian measures, the Punjab Chief Minister had also issued health-care cards for the Pakistan Movement workers to provide them with treatment at the government hospitals free of cost.
“The CM has also issued orders for 66 Pakistan Movement workers to be provided with plots. The Pakistan Treasury deserves a glowing tribute and sincere thanks for providing aid to our heroes who have been rendered helpless by the vicissitudes of times,” the governor added.
The governor further said that it is, now, our duty to provide them with aid and relief. It was the Quaid-i-Azam’s far-sightedness and cutting-edge leadership that secured us an independent country. It is high time that all Pakistanis, the rulers and the ruled, join hands, make a common cause and left no stone unturned to retrieve the honour and prestige of our dear motherland by rooting out that biggest evil of them all – corruption, which has caused billions to go down the drain received as foreign aid to be spent on providing pure water to the Pakistani people or on running welfare projects for the poor, the helpless and the needy.
Giving vent to his inner-most feelings, the governor observed that it was a bad bargain to sell out one’s soul for the sake of material comforts and luxuries. “Power and wealth have never ever brought salvation to man. Sacrificing a blissful eternal life on the alter of an unimaginably brief luxurious life is nothing short of a folly,” he observed. The attendees included NPT Vice Chairman Dr Rafique Ahmad the members of the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust Board of Governors, Justice (r) Aftab Farrukh, Waleed Iqbal Advocate, Ch Naeem Hussain Chattha, Prof Ata-ur-Rehman, Dr Ajmal Niazi, Director Bait-ul-Maal Muhammad Zaheer, Rana Muhammad Arshad, Ghulam Rabbani Awan, Prof Dr Parveen Khan, Shehzad Dogar, Ch Muhammad Shafi, Aziz Zafar Azad, the Pakistan Movement workers, teachers, students and a large number of people from different walks of life.
