Asif Bajwa on top in Governors Cup Golf

LAHORE - Asif Bajwa of Sialkot dominated the first day of three-day 32nd Millat Tractors Governors Cup Golf Championship in progress here at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course. Asif Bajwa, former national hockey player, has now taken to golf and his first day’s score of net 67, five under par reflects ability and temperament and for a golf player who plays to a handicap of 11, it substantially enhances his status as a potential champion. During the round yesterday, he had two birdies, 10 pars, four bogies and mess up on two holes which he double bogied. Besides Bajwa, the other top contenders were Khurshid Aziz, Najam Hafeez and Jamal Nasir. In gross section, Sardar Murad Khan (Gymkhana) and Saqib Tufail (Garrison) were front runners with similar first round 18 holes score of gross 74, two over par.–Staff Reporter

World Team Squash event shifted to Egypt

ISLAMABAD – The World Squash Federation (WSF) has stripped off Kuwait from hosting World Team Squash Championship, as IOC announced suspension of Kuwait Olympic Committee to protect Olympic movement in Kuwait from undue government interference. WSF chief executive Andrew Shelley informed this to participating countries thorough emails. He thanked Kuwait Squash Federation for making excellent arrangements for the event and also thanked Egypt Squash Federation (ESF) for accepting to host it. “We are fortunate not to postpone the event with the active help of the ESF, while Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) was also willing to host the event in case nobody comes forward.” PSF secretary Group Captain Amir Nawaz confirmed that the PSF would have stepped in, had Egypt not tabled their bid.–Staff Reporter

Trials to select U-17 Lahore team on Nov 6

LAHORE – The trials for selection of U-17 Lahore region team for U-17 National Championship (Girls) will be organised by Lahore region on November 6 at 10am here at Kinnaird College cricket ground. Any individual, school or club want to appear in trials are advised to register till November 4 to the regional representative, Nooshin Haneef at sports office of Kinnaird College. The eligibility criterion for participation in the trials is that the players should be born on or after March 1, 1999. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regional representative Nooshin Haneef has said that after the trials, the selected players would be given chance to represent Lahore region team in the U-17 National Championship. “The event will help in hunting fresh talent for national team.”–Staff Reporter

The event is being played under the patronage of Federal Education Board Islamabad. ITA president Tariq Murtaza graced the occasion as chief guest. NTC Headquarters win badminton event

ISLAMABAD - Defending champions NTC Headquarters won the 12th NTC All-Pakistan Inter-Regional Badminton Tournament 2015 team event after defeating Central Region 2-0 in the final played here at Rodham Hall, Pakistan Sports Complex on Friday. NTC Headquarters team had won all the 12 team titles played so far. Nauman Khalid/Omeet Omkar beat M Rasheed/Safdar 21-10, 21-12 and M Ali/Hassan Raza beat Kamran Siddique/Mureed Ababs 21-11, 21-8. South Region grabbed third position after defeating North Region 2-0. Rizwan Hameed/Abdul Mateen beat Sohail Pasha/Khalid 21-18, 21-16 and Sarfraz Abidi/Akmal Hussain beat Tufail/Shahid 21-9, 21-13.
