LAHORE -  A veteran PPP jiayala Muhammad Siddique alias Baba Heera Saien, passed away on Monday after a brief illness. He was 90.

He would be buried in Mianisahib graveyard on Tuesday (today) along with his dreams to bring about a revolution in the lives of the poor Pakistanis.

A true lover of PPP founder Z.A Bhutto, Saien would always be found on the city roads riding on a donkey cart decorated with pictures of his leaders with an audio system playing party’s songs.

He spent his life on the donkey cart spreading the PPP manifesto in every nook and corner of the City while shouting slogans of Jiye-e-Bhutto. He would also hoist party flag on his cart and play revolutionary songs aiming to change the system.

PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto knew him personally and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto also held him in high esteem. But he never took any worldly benefit from the party leaders as he spent his entire life in utter poverty. He was in fact a selfless person who did not seek any financial help from any party leader in his life time.

Heera grew up in Mozang area of Lahore and breathed his last at the same place. For the last over five years, Saien was too weak to work but no party leader cared for him.

His funeral would be taken out from 10-C, Noshairwan street, Hameed Nizami Road on Tuesday (today) at 10 am.

Also, PPP’s central and provincial leadership has expressed deep sorrow over his demise. They described his death as a great loss to the party saying that he had great love and affiliation with late Bhutto and his family.

Expressing grief over the death of Heera Saien, PPP’s Secretary Information Chaudhary Manzoor on Monday said he was the real soul of the PPP and his life was full of struggle for the democracy. “He was a die-hard ‘Jiyala’ who would never put any demand for his sacrifices”, he said, adding that Heera Saien spread Bhutto’s message everywhere at a time when nobody could dare speak about it during Zia’s era. “He challenged Zia’s dictatorship by adorning his donkey cart with Bhutto’s pictures, playing party songs and waving its flag in every nook and corner”. Manzoor further stated that Heera Saien had a role in revival of democracy in Pakistan. “Today’s so-called political leadership cannot be the substitute of Heera Saien”, he averred. PPP spokesperson said those who wanted to become prime minister must learn from Heera Saien’s struggle.
