LAHORE - Veteran cricketer Shoaib Malik has expressed his desire to win a World Cup for Pakistan saying only a World Cup is missing from my honour.
“I still want to play a few more years. I come to the ground every morning and practice hard. I don’t know about tomorrow but the goal is to win and a World Cup is missing from my honour. I don’t have words to show my desire but I request you to pray for me,” Malik said during a post-match conference here at the Gaddafi Stadium.
The third T20’s man of the match said that to play at home is a great feeling. “When you have already play at home ground and when you entered the ground to play an international match, you feel too much happiness and you can’t describe that feeling. I am blessed that my comeback also came here in Lahore,” he said.
Malik was very glad with Sri Lanka team visit and highly appreciated the visitors for their arrival. “I would like to thank the Sri Lankan team, which helped us again in the time of need. This is something we have missed for many years.”
The veteran player termed Sri Lankan team visit a great step towards revival of full-fledged cricket and said: “We have sent a good message across the world, as the same team came to Pakistan which was attacked which is a very positive signal and good omen for Pakistan cricket. The kind of hospitality they got was tremendous so I would like to congratulate the entire nation.”
“Consistency is the main thing. When you select the right talent and then back them with consistent chances, it certainly pays off. The selection committee is giving consistent chances to the youngsters who in reply responding very well. Spots are not fixed in the playing eleven but the squad is more or less the same due to such consistent performances.
This team has unity and the boys are doing well, they back each other and even lift the seniors as well,” Malik said. Lauding the efforts of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the experiences batsman said the PCB is putting in efforts in right direction. “We must think not only about cricket but other sports are not being held as well. The PCB is taking it step by step and everyone is doing that with unity. First Zimbabwe came and then a World XI with big names and hope that it continues.”
“PCB chairman Najam Aziz Sethi is very keen to revive full-fledged international in Pakistan for which he and his team have been working tirelessly. The time is not so far, when the cricket-crazy fans will be seeing regular international cricket at home grounds,” he added.
