LAHORE - Allied health professionals staged a demonstration outside the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday for regularisation of anti-dengue team and withdrawing decision of outsourcing health facilities. a

They also boycotted the anti dengue and anti polio campaigns to mount pressure on the high-ups to accept their demands. Employees from across the province gathered outside the DGHS in the morning and continued protest till the afternoon, causing massive traffic jam on The Mall and its adjoining arteries at peak hours.

Carrying placards and banners inscribed with the demands of regularizing ad hoc employees and withdrawing decision of privatising health facilities, protesters chanted slogans against health bureaucracy. They announced continuing  protest daily until the fulfillment of their demands.

Minister chairs meeting

Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Kh Salman Rafiq chaired a meeting of Punjab Blood Transfusion Authority on Monday to evaluate measures for provision of safe and healthy blood especially in remote areas. Prof Mahfooz Ur Rehman, Head of Pathology PIC Lahore, Prof Mona Aziz, Head of Pathology Sheikh Zayed Hospital Lahore, Dr Zafar Iqbal, Director IBTS Lahore, Dr Athar Secretary PBTA Lahore, Dr Ahmad Hameed KEMU Lahore, Dr Shafqat PMU Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department and Dr Arif Tabassum attended the meeting.  PBTA launched pilot project of providing blood to private patients from public sector blood banks in Rahim Yar Khan, Jhang and Hafizabad. Later, this service will be extended to the entire province in phases. PBTA will introduce training program for all employees of public and private blood banks at Institute of Blood Transfusion Punjab.
