HEC, PM&DC ink MoU to strengthen coordination

Islamabad - The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration and coordination with each other.
Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmad and President PM&DC Dr Masood Hameed Khan signed the MoU. The MoU aims to revamp and strengthen process of accreditation of programmes in medical and dental education offered in all institutions of higher education in Pakistan and to develop criteria for recognition of programmes in medical and dental education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, curriculum of programmes and criteria for appointment of faculty.
It also aims to establish a medical and dental education accreditation board/committee (MDEAC) as accreditation body for undergraduate, postgraduate programmes being offered in Pakistan.
Furthermore, the HEC will recognise the programmes accredited by the MDEAC only. The HEC has already signed such MoUs with Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners, Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council, etc.
