Code of conduct formulated to end sectarianism, says minister
Islamabad - “Non-Muslims and Western world judge us from our conduct, actions and how peaceful we are. They do not judge us from the teachings of holy book of Islam. If the Muslims of the world start practicing good conduct and actions that entail peace and tranquility, the entire world will start believing that Islam is religion of goodness, kindness, compassion and benevolence.”
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-Faith Harmony, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, expressed these views while addressing the opening ceremony of the two-day International Conference on World Peace (ICWP) which was arranged by the department of Islamic Studies of National University of Modern Languages.
The minister said, “If we Muslims don’t demonstrate and practice good behaviour towards others and appear peaceful, the world would look down upon our religion as its believers are not peaceful and well-behaved.” Moreover, the federal minister said that the government had formulated a 19-point code of conduct with the unanimous decision of religious scholars of all schools of thoughts to eradicate sectarian or religious disharmony in the country so that a peaceful environment and inter-faith harmony could be enjoyed in the country.
Dr Abdul Ghaffar Bukhari, head of department of Islamic Studies, said that there were a total of six topics of the conference, all related to peace. The objectives of this conference were to create awareness about the life of our Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), the dissemination of the message of peace in the light of teachings of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), Prophet Hazrat Muhammad’s (PBUH) concept of tolerance, Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) as a messenger of peace, terrorism and Islam: addressing the misconception, and eradication of sectarianism and promotion of inter-faith harmony, he added.
