Islamabad - The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has again clarified that it has not issued any notification for extension in winter vacations of the universities.

It has been noticed that fake notifications are being circulated on behalf of HEC that are misguiding students, parents and staff of the universities, says an HEC statement. Every student and employee, whether the institution is public or private, should contact their respective universities to verify for how long their university will remain closed.

Two notifications were attributed to the HEC that said a security meeting was held at HEC and it was decided to keep the university campuses closed.

Due to the circulation of fake notifications on social media students and university administrations were contacting HEC to confirm about it, the statement said. It maintained, “The HEC has nothing to do with security nor it comes under its purview and it is the interior ministry that can ask to close or open the campuses owing to security concerns.” The administrations of different universities in consultation with law enforcement agencies have to decide this according to their respective security arrangements, it said.

Currently universities are closed for academic activity till January 11 due to security concerns in the wake of Peshawar attack and further decision regarding opening or closure of the campuses has not been taken yet. School and colleges are also shut because of threat of any terrorist attack on educational institutions.
