FO asks missions to observe 3-day mourning

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tuesday expressed resolve to eliminate terrorism from its soil, saying its brave and indomitable people will eventually succeed. In a statement, the Foreign Office spokesperson said that Pakistani nation stands united in condemning this heinous crime and remains resolute in its commitment to eliminate terrorism from the soil of Pakistan.
In the wake of the horrendous terrorist attack in Peshawar and the resultant loss of innocent lives, all Pakistan Missions abroad have been instructed to observe a three-day mourning period. The national flag at the embassies/high commissions would be flown at half-mast and all scheduled festive events shall be cancelled.
Condolence books would be opened for signatures during the period by Pakistan Missions all over the world. A Condolence book has also been opened in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for Resident Diplomatic Missions in Islamabad.  To express their solidarity, officers of the Foreign Service of Pakistan are donating blood for the children wounded in the terrorist attack.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s National Security Adviser Hanif Atmar Tuesday telephoned the Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz to convey deep condolences from the government and people of Afghanistan over the loss of innocent lives in the terrorist attack on the school in Peshawar today.
While strongly condemning this terrorist act directed at children, Atmar stated that terrorism is a menace for the entire region and has to be addressed through common endeavours. He said that the Afghan people are with their Pakistani brethren facing this grim national tragedy. Sartaj Aziz thanked Atmar for this expression of solidarity.
The government of China also condemned the terrorist attack. “We are deeply shocked and saddened by the incident, and most strongly condemn on the terrorist attack”, Chinese Embassy in Pakistan in a press statement quoted the Foreign Ministry spokesperson as saying. The spokesperson said that China expresses profound condolences to the deceased and sincere sympathy to the injured and families of the deceased.
The spokesperson said that China opposes all forms of terrorism and will continue to render firm support to the government and people of Pakistan in the fight against terrorism and unremitting efforts in maintaining national stability and people’s safety.
Meanwhile, the US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson in a message extended the deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims of Tuesday’s heinous attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar.  
He said the United States strongly condemns senseless and inhumane attacks on innocent students and educators and stands in solidarity with the people of Pakistan and all who fight the menace of terrorism. “Few have suffered more at the hands of terrorists and extremists than the people of Pakistan.  That is why it remains essential for the United States and Pakistan to continue to work together to secure peace and stability in the region,” US envoy added.
The government of Japan has strongly condemned the terrorists attack in Army Public School, Peshawar. Spokesperson of the Japanese Embassy in statement said that Japanese government  and the people Japan are deeply shocked and saddened by the terrorists attack which caused numerous deaths and injuries, including many children on December 16 at the Army Public School in Peshawar. Japan mourns the victims and expresses its condolences to the bereaved families. Japan also offers its heartfelt sympathy to those wounded in the attacks. Japan strongly condemns such acts of terrorism which targets innocent people as inexcusable.
Japan is determined to support efforts by the Pakistani government to fight against terrorism in cooperation with the international community. The President of the Republic of France has also condemned the attack. A statement issued by the French Embassy said that the President while condemning the terrorist attack maintained that there is no word to qualify the infamy of such an attack against children in their school.
“France stands in solidarity with the victims and their parents. The government of Pakistan is assured on France’s support in the fight against terrorism,” the statement concluded.
Russia has also strongly condemned the barbaric act carried out by the terrorists who do not hesitate to commit senseless and cruel attacks even against children. We hope that masterminds and perpetrators of this inhuman act will face the punishment they deserve.
 We would like to extend condolences to the friends and relatives of those killed and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. We support the measures undertaken by the government of Pakistan aimed at the extermination of the hotbeds of terrorism. We expect Pakistan to continue with its uncompromising struggle to eliminate the extremist infrastructure. Russia is ready to proceed with assisting the Pakistani government in its efforts to fight terror.
