Plea to honour Peshawar principal

LAHORE - A writ petition was filed in the Lahore Hgih Court on Thursday seeking directions for the federal government to confer the national highest civil award on Tahira Qazi, former principal of Army Public School (APS), who was martyred in militants’ attack of December 16 in Peshawar.
Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree filed the petition saying that Tahira Qazi was a brave woman who did not surrender before the terrorists. He said she could save her life and could escape but she preferred to stay there for the safety of children. Tahira Qazi, he said, proved herself courageous and set an example for other women.
The petitioner-lawyer further stated she must be awarded with great respect. He requested the court to direct the government award her the highest civil award with dignity and respect. He also requested that the token payment to heirs of the martyrs be increased to more decent sum of Rs50 million.
