Islamabad - The HEC of Pakistan will refer all the fake degrees, confiscated during the attestation process, for legal investigation to the relevant authority.

In routine people come to HEC to attest their degrees for verification and if found fake, the degree is confiscated.  But HEC has no mandate to take any further action despite knowing that a person is committing a punishable crime, informed the official.  But now the HEC has taken the decision to eliminate the menace of counterfeit educational documents, which is one of the major causes of corruption in the society, and forward the fake degrees to FIA to take action.

The HEC, on average, attests 600 documents daily at its Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar offices.

The step will help deter corrupt elements in the society, as verification of educational documents is now mandatory for higher studies, employment within the country and abroad, visa processing, etc.
