PM&DC directs varsities to ensure standards

Islamabad - The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has directed all medical universities to ensure that all their respective medical colleges are following set standards.
A meeting of Vice Chancellors from all the medical university of Pakistan was held by the PM&DC under the chairmanship of President PM&DC, Prof Dr Masood Hameed Khan. The meeting was called to decide SOPs to standardise and strengthen the working of medical universities for the betterment of medical education in their respective medical dental colleges.
President PM&DC after the meeting apprised the media that all the vice chancellor of medical universities were invited, so that all the universities should ensure the standards of their constituent/affiliated medical/dental colleges.
PM&DC directed to all the universities to established CME/CDE cells in their respective institution with appropriate staff and SOPs with intimation to PM&DC, he said. He added that all the universities vice chancellor were directed to hold CME/CDE (Continuous Medical/Dental Education) conferences/Seminars/workshop all over Pakistan within their respective territories through its constituent colleges to facilitate doctors as PM&DC will not renew any registration of any doctor without CME / CDE credit points.
It was further decided in the meeting that universities would ensure the standards of their medical colleges to standardise their examination system and choices of examiner to hold transparent examination. All the vice chancellor of the universities was directed to submit their external/internal examiners details before examination.
PM&DC along with vice chancellor decided that certification of examination should be started by next year for fresh doctors and registered doctors after 10 years.
The President, PM&DC emphasised that there will be zero tolerance on the standards and working of universities and their respective constituent/registered medical/dental colleges, failing which, PM&DC will take strict disciplinary action as per law or through HEC on non-compliance of these decision.
