Active Pak participation in ITU events urged

Islamabad - The Minister of Information Technology Anusha Rehman called upon Houlin Zhao, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) during her visit to attend WSIS Forum 2015.
According to a handout Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to United Nations Ambassador Zamir Akram and Chairman PTA, Dr. Syed Ismail Shah were also present during the meeting.
The Minister highlighted the need to increase representation from Pakistan in ITU. The Secretary General briefed about the ITU HR secondment / loan mechanism, and requested the Minister to consider sending technical experts under this scheme. Furthermore, Minister for Information Technology also invited Secretary General, to visit Pakistan which was accepted by the Secretary General.
On the sidelines of the event, Minister for IT also held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Eun-Ju Kim, Head of Innovation and Partnership Department of the International Telecommunication Union. Dr. Kim briefed the Minister on the upcoming programmes of ITU, including the Young Innovators Programme, ITU Telecom event. Dr. Kim further requested the Minister to consider active participation of Pakistan in the forthcoming ITU events.
Pakistan Permanent Representative to United Nations also called on the Minister for IT and briefed the Minister about the activities carried out by the Pakistan Mission to UN, particularly relating to the ITU. The Minister appreciated the work of the Mission in maintaining an effective relationship with ITU and urged the need of active representation on ITU as Pakistan is now a council member.
