Students out against cancellation of BZU affiliation
LAHORE - Dozens of students staged a protest demonstration against cancellation of affiliation with Bahauddin Zakariya University Lahore Campus.
Protesters blocked the Canal Bank Road for hours which caused huge traffic jam on the road. They were chanting slogans against the administration of the university and were demanding the higher authorities to save their future by saving their two precious academic years.
They alleged the administration of university established such bogus campus of BZU for deceiving the students and minting money ensuring the students on the time of admissions that their university was affiliated with BZU Multan.
The students were of the view that they are paying heavy amount as fees for the last two years and they while paying their fees were satisfied because they thought they were studying in a prestigious educational institution.
The students disclosed that scam unearthed last week when the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested former vice-chancellor of BZU Khawaja Alqama for an alleged embezzlement of millions of rupees. Protesting students were also demanded the government seeking accountability of the administration with returning their money and two academic years.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, taking notice of the issue directed the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to probe the matter on priority basis. He also directed the commission to submit the inquiry report as soon as possible.
Food, nutrition week at UVAS: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Nutritionists Association of Pakistan (NAP), Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA), Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) , Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and Forman Christian College (FCC) Lahore is observing “Food and Nutrition Week-2015 (FAW-2015)” with the theme “Professional collaboration for better health” from November 3-7.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said that the FAWN-2015 will be comprised four events i.e. International Human Nutrition Conference, International Conference on Food and Nutritional Security, International Poultry Nutrition Conference and Food and Nutrition EXPO.
Governor Punjab Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana will inaugurate the Food and Nutrition Week and the human nutrition conference.
All the events except Food and Nutritional Security Conference will be held at Pearl Continental Lahore. Prof Pasha said that Human Nutrition and Poultry Nutrition Conferences are mainly academic events focusing on research based presentations and deliberations, while Food and Nutritional Security is a stakeholders event, focusing on review and recommendations about policies, strategies and operational plans for related to food security, nutrition and health.
A large number of international and national researchers, scientists and stakeholders from around the globe will participate in the mega event, in which a detailed review of the recent developments in food and nutrition will be held.
