New school programme for brick-kiln workers

LAHORE - The Punjab Education Foundation has launched a project for educating the child workers at brick-kilns in the districts of Multan, Muzaffargarh and Lodhran.
A PEF spokesman said yesterday that the project will be run under New School Program. It will be run through partner NGOs who will open primary schools in the targeted areas to provide free education to the children of brick-kiln workers and other low-income families of the area, the spokesman added.
Free textbooks will also be provided to the students while PEF will give monthly grant of Rs550 per student at primary level to the school partners.
This project is aimed to help the needy communities to send their children to schools without being burdened. NSP was launched in 2008 to allure private sector entrepreneurs to set up schools in distant and remote areas of the province where private or governmental schools are scarce or absent altogether, the spokesman added.
