Dozens of students receive wrongly calculated MDCAT results

ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) on Saturday sent wrongly calculated MDCAT results to dozens of students after post-exam analysis of medical colleges entry test by the Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU).
Though, PMC claimed that the result was dispatched to students mistakenly due to technical error before time, but MDCAT candidates said that the re-calculated results with mistakes again proved that the PMC has mishandled the test and is now only covering the matter.  Candidates demanded to re-conduct the test or provide them with their answer keys which they attempted in the exam. President PMC Dr. Arshad Taqi and Vice President (VP) Ali Raza held a press briefing to inform about outcomes of MDCAT held, however, left it incompletely alleging media for asking planned and planted questions. The Nation received a dozen of MDCAT results emailed to students after the post-exam analysis of QAU and all had marks calculation mistakes in subjects and overall, too.
In one result in which student had been declared passed, the student got 45 marks in English out of 20, in another Muhammad Imran Malik got 43/20, Shahzad Ahmed got 58/20 his total marks were 112 but the system gave him 153/210. Another candidate got 41/20, his total was 108 but was awarded 150 marks. Another candidate Tooba Tehseen got 51/20 in English and her total was 118 but PMC system awarded her 161 marks.
The PMC was already facing criticism on MDCAT mismanagement and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Faisal Sultan had recommended an independent post-exam analysis by QAU to resolve the matter.
One of the MDCAT candidates Marim Malik talking to The Nation said that the PMC has given random marks apparently and candidates don’t know on what basis they have given these marks.
Malik said that first they said they have received the result but that is not correct and after three hours, they said this is the correct result. How can a candidate trust PMC anymore.
“Why are they not providing candidates with their answer keys which was a known practice before?” she said. PMC VP Ali Raza in the press conference said that a small error erupted in the system and our IT teams worked on it. He said that the result which was to be accessed on the request to the candidate was generated and emailed to students automatically and we apologise for it.
He said all results have been checked and their final scores are 100% correct, but a small number of certificates are those where subject marks have been mixed up, but final scores are correct.
“Now students can check their results online,” he said.
The PMC in its special announcement said that this morning, many students reported that they had received an email from PMC’s no reply email with their MDCAT 2021 result certificates attached.
It said as the final result was to be announced later in the afternoon after completion of the last exam scheduled today in the morning for COVID-19 affected students, the matter was immediately investigated.
It said that unfortunately due to an error, the system generated all the result certificates and emailed them to students early automatically. The final score in all the result certificates received by students are correct and have been checked. The statement said that in a small number of certificates emailed to students this morning, there are errors in subject marks only caused due to these being generated by the system automatically.
“Students are requested to ignore these errors as the total score is correct,” the statement said.
