ISLAMABAD - Pakistan will likely to receive the anti-corona vaccine Pfizer next month, The Nation learnt yesterday. Senior officials of the Health Ministry informed that the Pfizer vaccine shipments are likely to be received in the months of June and August this year. They said that in June the Pfizer vaccine shipment will be received through the COVAX facility, while the procurement of the vaccine will be done in August. The officials also informed that 100,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine will be received through COVAX and one million through procurement will be acquired from the funds allocated for procurement of vaccines. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr. Faisal Sultan also confirmed that the government will be receiving the Pfizer vaccine. “Yes. We will get some. No clear date yet,” he said.  According to the master document of the country's vaccine roll-out program, the government has arranged 15,000 cold freezers for storage and maintaining the cold chain process. The government also received above 1.2 million doses of AstraZenca vaccine this month from COVAX giving a boost to its vaccination drive.  A statement issued on receiving of AstraZenca vaccine said that the first shipment of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine comprising more than 1.2 million doses will be administered to high-risk people across the country. It said the consignment of 1,238,400 doses of vaccines, which will be followed by another 1,236,000 doses in a few days, will support the Government of Pakistan’s ongoing drive to bring the pandemic to an end. Dr. Palitha Gunarathna Mahipala, WHO Representative in Pakistan, recently said that over the past year, WHO has been standing side by side with the government of Pakistan providing technical guidance and new tools needed to prepare for, prevent, detect, and respond to the spread of this new virus.
