Past in Perspective
I intend to leave after my death a fund
for the promotion of the peace idea, but I
am skeptical as to its results.
–Alfred Nobel
Nobel Prize is awarded to people who have achieved an unparalleled distinction in their field. It initially started as a Peace award and has since diverged into various categories including but not limited to Physics, Medicine and Literature. On 10th December in 1906, the award was given to Theodore Roosevelt for brokering peace between Japan and Russia. It was the first time when the award was extended to a statesman or even an American. Incidentally, it was also the first time when the award became controversial. Since, the Nobel Peace Prize has been stopped in controversy especially when it was given to the likes of Henry Kissinger.
