Punjab to spend Rs14.2b on gender responsive projects




LAHORE - The Punjab government will spend over Rs 14.2 billion on welfare projects of women in the province during the current fiscal year.
This was stated by Planning & Development Department Secretary Arif Anwar Baloch while addressing a workshop on “Gender Responsive Budgeting” and members of the Lahore Economic Journalist Association (LEJA), at a local hotel on Tuesday.
He said the Punjab government with the cooperation of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was endeavouring for women rights in society. No society can make progress without making women strong economically, he added. Highlighting various initiatives of the Punjab government for the development of women, he said that a Women Development Funds had been established in the province at a cost of Rs. 500 million and Daycare Centres at a cost of Rs 100 million which showed the Punjab government efforts for women’s welfare.
Secretary P&D Arif Baloch said that legislation was being made to safeguard the law of inheritance for women so that nobody could deprive them of their legitimate rights. Project Manager SPRSM Muhammad Zaman Wattoo and Directing Staff Member, Industrial Relations Institute Lahore Tahir Manzoor also spoke on the occasion while, Planning & Development Chief Research & Development Sector Khalid Sultan gave a brief presentation on planning & Development process of the P&D Department and later he gave away certificates to the participants.
