‘Special persons proved themselves worthy worldwide’

KARACHI - Dean, Faculty of Education Karachi University (KU) Professor Dr Nasir Salman said on Thursday that no nation could prosper without acquiring latest technology and education.

“Special persons have proved themselves worthy worldwide with their talent and skills; they have defeated their bodily weaknesses and proved that if adequate opportunities are provided to them, they can flourish in every walk of life.” He expressed these views at a seminar, held here on International Day for Persons with Disabilities, entitled, ‘Awareness in Action towards Resilient Society’, organised by the Department of Special Education, University of Karachi(KU) at the university’s Arts Auditorium.

He asked the government to establish institutions which could ensure protection of rights of the disabled people. “They must be provided equal opportunities and chances,” he emphasised, and reminded that in the recent census, disabled people were completely neglected.

Department of Special Education Chairperson Dr Humera Aziz, while addressing the disabled people, said that you were not disabled or weak, but you are the strongest people of the society who have defeated their physical deficiencies and hopelessness by living as normal people do.

“Our society is full of people who are physically normal, but their minds are filled with disabilities and they are ruining the fabric of our society,” she pointed out.

Pakistan Form of Disability distributed wheelchairs, hearing aids and white sticks to the disabled people at the seminar.
