ISLAMABAD - Test-discarded wicketkeeper opening batsman Kamran Akaml has expressed his utter disappointment for being continuously ignored by the selectors.
Talking to The Nation, Kamran said: “I am scoring runs on regular basis in all the formats in domestic cricket and creating new records in the history of Pakistan domestic cricket. I was involved in some great partnerships last year and the same is continued unabated this year too. I have scored loads of runs, took exceptional catches behind the stumps and also helped my region and department excel at higher level. But despite giving such exceptional performances at domestic level, I was not given fair chances, for which I am disappointed now and deserves better resentment from the selectors.”
He said he helped Lahore Region Whites finish runners-up in the National T20 Championship and was also the second highest run-getter. “But unfortunately, all this couldn’t attract the eyes of the selectors and the PCB. Ever since Inzamam has taken over the reins as chief selector, I was always confident that he is the right person for the right job and he would surely provide justice to the deserving players.
“I had the honour of playing under him and he always bucked me up. It is a fact that I was at the peak of my career during Inzamam’s captaincy days. Even then, I feel somewhat let down and ignored by the PCB. I still believe that unless Inzamam is the chief selector, he will definitely provide justice to me, Umar Akmal and other deserving players,” he added.
Kamran said: “I am ready to play as a specialist batsman in the national team, as I have been scoring a lot of runs and if selected, I will continue this good show at international level as well. New Zealand tour is coming and I have set my sights on that particular tour for comeback in the national team. The pitches, weather and conditions perfectly suit my style of batting. If provided with opportunity, I will play out my heart to help green caps register thumping victories in Black Caps own backyard. It is impossible to beat them at their own grounds, as we have a balanced squad and with the inclusion of a few specialists, who know the conditions, can make a huge difference for green caps.”
He said he is a born fighter and he will continue to fight for his right. “Yes, disappointment is natural but I will continue to struggling hard. I will stage another comeback and will prove my worth and I will silence my critics with stunning and match-winning performances. I have always preferred national interest over my personal ambitions and once again my focus is to bounce back and grab a place in the national team and give my more than 100 percent. I am ready to serve the country whenever the selectors decide to give me chance,” Kamran concluded.
