Workers, residents out in search of power

A large numbers of factory workers accompanied by residents of Ferozewattwan and its adjoining localities threw traffic out of gear for three hours Faisalabad Road against 20 hours prolonged electricity outages here on Tuesday. The protesters chanted slogans against the Lesco authority and urged the new government to adopt tangible measures on war footings step to resolve the burning and long standing issue of loadshedding. Addressing the protesters, Labour leader Wajid said that power loadshedding had forced closure of hundreds of industrial units, rendering thousands of labourers, especially daily-wagers jobless. The resident of the areas said that the haunting loadshedding had been causing great disturbance and nuisance in the prevailing scorching weather. The protesters demanded Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif to pay special attention to the crippling issue to ensure smooth electricity supply to industrial units.WATCHMAN KILLED: A security guard was shot dead by seven unidentified armed dacoits on putting up resistance in early hours on Tuesday. According to information, Amanat was a watchman at an auto manufacturing unit located on Lahore Road, some 25-km away from here. The outlaws entered the factory. However, the watchman attempted to overpower them but had to face wrath of the outlaws who let off a volley of gunshots on him, killing him instantly.
