Govt asked to impose taxes on the rich

LAHORE -  Hundreds of electricity revenue workers on Wednesday took out large procession under the aegis of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union CBA in support of their demands.

The participants raised slogans and demand imposition of taxes upon the feudal lords, capitalists and major traders and urge the government to bring back $200 billion deposited in the foreign banks as were announced by the federal finance minister two years ago. They said the wealth deposited in foreign banks should be used to provide free quality education to each child and free health needs to each citizens, build new hydel power stations and water dams and raise infrastructure to build national competitive standard industries, agriculture in the phase of globalisation of economy to achieve National Economic Self Reliance and raise employment opportunities.

The procession was led by the Veteran Trade Union Leader and General Secretary Khurshid Ahmed, President Abdul Latif Nizamani, Chairman Gohar Taj, Dr Iftikharud Din, Abdul Qayyum, Hikmat Shah, Gulzar Ahmed Sheikh, Gansham Das Rohri, Rafique, Arshad Ali Mir, Muhammad Shakeel Baloch, Abdul Rehman Baloch, Sheikh Sajid Mehmood, Mian Farooq Ahmed and Zakir Ali Shah, Secretary of Revenue Office Regional Union.

The workers also held national conference which was addressed by Trade Union representatives of the union including Muhammad Imran, Mian Liaqat Ali, Munir Ahmed Bhutta, Ch Muhammad Ashiq, Malik Noor Muhammad, Rana Abdul Shakoor and others. The conference, in a resolution, demanded to the management of Pakistan Electric Supply Company to provide the required staff in the revenue office, superannuation of old hands and sanction the Computer Allowance to the revenue staff, promotion of junior clerks and remove the anomaly of pay scales of commercial superintendent and raise their promotion avenue @ 20 percent to 40 percent and place revenue office under the control of superintending engineers for their transparent and independent official work.

The union welcomed the decision of Pepco management to raise pay scales of commercial assistant and account assistant from BPS-14 and BPS-16 and commercial superintend as revenue officer all over the country. On the occasion, LESCO General Manager Ch Muhammad Anwar, Pepco General Manager (HR) Mian Sagheer Ahmed, Pepco GM Muhammad saleem and Lesco Director Khalid Mehmood assured the workers that the legitimate grievances would be redressed as the management had already raised the pay scales of commercial assistants from BPS-14 to BPS-16 and brought number of contract workers on regular cadre and urged them to perform their work as service to the nation in the wider national public interest.

 The house commended the role of armed forces for the defence of the motherland and condemned the barbaric killing of Kashmiri innocent citizens and appealed all freedom loving nations and United Nations to get stopped the genocide of Kashmiri citizen.
