Two more prosecution witnesses record statements

Reference against Dar

ISLAMABAD - The Accountability Court Islamabad Monday recorded statements of two more prosecution witnesses against former finance minister Ishaq Dar in the assets beyond means corruption reference.

Banker Faisal Shahzad presented in the court details of Dar’s wife back accounts and Deputy Secretary Cabinet Division Sher Dil Khan told the court about the details of Dar tenures in the parliament.

He told the court that Dar was first elected MNA on December 16, 1993, and remained a member of the parliament till November 14, 1996. To a query, the witness told the court that from the day of his election as MNA he started getting monthly salary Rs14,000.

In 1997, he was re-elected as MNA and took the oath of his office on January 15, 1997, and later took the oath as minister on February 5, 1997. On June 25, he was given charge of the Board of Investment while on July 11, 1997, he became the minister for trade while on November 6, 1998, he was also given charge of the Ministry of Finance, Economic and Statistic Divisions and remained on these posts till the dislodging of Nawaz Sharif’s government in October 1999.

Again on March 31, 2008, Dar was notified as Minister of Finance with Economic and Statistic Division under him but he stepped down from the position on September 13 the same year after the PML-N decision to step out of coalition government with the PPP.

Again on June 7, 2013, he became the Finance Minister with Economic and Statistic Divisions but a month later, he was sent on leave on health grounds but still he was part of the federal cabinet.
