AAUR holds sports gala

Rawalpindi - A colourful Girls Sports Gala was held here at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Wednesday with an aim to provide female students an opportunity to explore their talent.
Vice-Chancellor PMAS-AAUR Prof Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad inaugurated the sports gala as chief guest while Judge Muhammad Naeem Arshad and PML-N Senator Najma Hameed were also present on the occasion. The event was also attended by deans/directors, faculty members, staff and a large number of female students.
More than 100 students of different departments showed their spirit and enthusiasm by participating in different sports activities, including  100-meter race, 400-meter rally race, discus throw, volleyball, long jump, handkerchief snatching, short put  and tug-of-war etc.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Niaz told the students that knowledge without practice is nothing, adding that sports related activities help the students polish their hidden potential. He said that women consists of half of the country’s population and through healthy sports activities they could be prepared for tough future challenges. A woman could play a pivotal role in the uplift of the society, he added. He said that Pakistan’s future depends upon education and the ability of students could be utilised through such activities for the benefit of the country.
The PMAS-AAUR has been trying to provide better opportunities for extracurricular events to the youth so that they could play their role in nation building, he said.
At the end, the chief guest distributed prizes and shields among the students who got top positions in different competitions.
