Show of skills in Lahore

LAHORE - A two-day Skill Mela organised by the the Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC) in collaboration with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Reform Support Programme was kicked off on Monday, attracting a large number of youth and students at Children Library Complex.
The two-day Skill Mela is aimed at sensitizing the youth about the importance of being skilled and the training opportunities for them. The Mela is being organized with the support of TVET Reform Support Programme, which is co-funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Federal Republic of Germany and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
Vocational Training Institutes (VTIs) of the PVTC set up their respective stalls and products of the trainees on this occasion. While some of the stalls also had the success stories from a number of vocational training projects, which have been funded through a Fund for Innovative Training, created under the TVET Reform Support Programme. PVTC has been one of the major recipients of funds under FIT projects, which have been set up under the TVET Reform Support Programme to train 100,000 trainees through innovative training projects.
On the side-lines of the exhibition, a seminar was also organized, where experts shed light on different aspects of the TVET system and the ongoing reform. On this occasion, impacts of these FIT projects were also shared.
PVTC has set up seven state of the art labs and class rooms of Welder/ Fabricator and Industrial Garments Stitching trades in central and southern Punjab through 07 FIT projects, which have been completed. These completed projects benefited directly 492 people, while number of indirect beneficiaries are 3590.
PVTC has received funding for a new project from FIT under which training in Halal butchery is being imparted to men and women from Lahore. This project is being implemented in VTI Green Town Lahore.
Speaking on the occasion chief guest Malik Nadeem Kamran said that PVTC was doing a remarkable job in the field of vocational Training keeping in view the services of PVTC in the field of rehabilitation of poor people he has directed the Z & U department to enhance PVTC’s funds.
