Islamabad - Islamabad police have started security audit of the educational institutions in the federal capital and 34 teams have been constituted to review arrangements and deliver special lectures to bring further improvement in the security measures.
Following the directions from inspector general of Islamabad police, AIG (Operations) Sultan Azam Temuri conducted a meeting with Capital Administration & Development Division (CADD) officials at F-7/2 College, said a press release issued here on Wednesday. Director General (Education) Aamir Ashraf, Director CADD Sahu Ghulam Hussain, principals and administration officials of various educational institutions were present on the occasion.
The AIG (operations) said on the occasion that Islamabad police had constituted special teams headed by officers of DSP and inspector rank which would visit 422 educational institutions within Islamabad to deliver special lectures to improve security measures. He said that security audit of educational institution would be conducted by AIG (Special Branch) Waqar Chohan himself.
He said three categories had been made for security which included students, security staff, teachers and administration officials.
He directed the school administration to keep one gate for entry and exit and ensure complete verification of those working as security guards, canteen staffers and those giving pick and drop service. The AIG (operations) said that security drill should be conducted on monthly basis and a focal person should be appointed to review the security measures continuously. He asked the officials of school administration to install CCTV cameras within the school and height of boundary walls should be at least eight feet. He urged the school administrations to cooperate with school staff who would start giving lectures from January 12.
The police teams will visit schools and colleges and apprise the administration where they need to raise walls and what equipment they need to purchase and install to secure the buildings.
In the light of recommendations of the team a PC-I will be drafted to demand supplementary grant from finance ministry for the purchase of security apparatus.
According to officials, colleges somehow have funds to arrange security guards so they have been instructed to hire immediately 2 to 3 security guards via a notification issued on Tuesday by the Federal Directorate of Education. “While schools working under the federal setup do not have funds to hire guards and install security equipment recommended by the city administration so they would be needing extra funds,” said a senior official at FDE.
After observing winter breaks, schools were supposed to reopen on January 1, but due to the security concerns the vacations have been extended for another 11 days. Universities are also closed for another week till January 11 due to precarious security situation.
