Today, the religion of Allah (SWT) that was revealed on Muhammad (PBUH) is divided in not only two or three, but 73 sects. Every person thinks what he is following is authentic, that only he, himself, is a true follower of Allah. But wait, have they ever thought about what Allah has said about this?
“Turn to Him alone, all of you. Be mindful of Him; keep up the prayer; do not be among the Moshrekeen, those who divide their religion into sects, with each party rejoicing in their own.”
Every Muslim nowadays is calling other Muslims belonging to other sects, kafir. Have they ever thought whether Allah is pleased with this behavior or not? The Quran strongly forbids divisions of any sort or to associate with those that break away into sects:
"Indeed, those who divide their religion and break up into sects, you have no part with them in the least: their affair is with God: He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they used to do"
Allah (SWT) used the word “Muslman” for the Ummah of Muhammad (PBUH). Muhammad never used such words as Hanafi, Hanbali, Maliki, Shafi, Barelvi, Wahabi, Deobandi, Sunni, Shi’a etc. for his followers. He always mentioned us as one Ummah, the Ummat-e-Muhammadi. The Quran has warned us again and again against sectarian divisions:
"And hold firmly, all together, by the rope which God (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves"
At this time, the western world is engaged in a war against Muslims, and Muslims are beings called as terrorists. The reason behind our fall is that we are divided. We don’t act as one Ummah; in fact, our sect is more important to us than the order of Allah. Our Prophet always talked about the unity of Muslims. But what we have done? We started civil wars. Muslims turned their swords towards other Muslims. We are facing many problems in different parts of the world because we are not holding the rope of Allah firmly. Try to be a good Muslim instead of trying to be a good member of your sect. As a famous saying goes:
"Jannat will be full of surprises! Sunnis will be surprised to see Shias there. Shias will be surprised to see the Sunnis there. Salafis will be surprised to see Sufis there. Saints will be surprised to see Sinners there. With the Infinite Mercy of Allah, hope we all see each other there!"
