ISLAMABAD - Over 29 hydro power projects, having a total capacity of producing 32,701.2MW electricity would, start production in the next two to seven years, says Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).
According to details, 4,320 mw Dasu Hydro power Project and 7100mw Bunji hydro power project were under process of approval. 58 per cent overall physical progress has been reported in 969mw Neelum-Jhelum hydro power project. Gomal Zam dam situated in Dera Ismael Khan would start producing 17.4mw power in December 2013.
Land acquisition and preliminary works are in progress in 4500mw capacity Diamer Basha Dam to be constructed near Chilas. 4.2 mw Nal Gaj Dam situated in Dadu Sindh mw power would be completed in June 2015. Yet another 22 mw capacity Jabban Hydro power project has started 5.5 mw power. The full production would be started very soon.
Golan Gol hydro power project having power producing capacity of 106 mw has reached at tendering stage. Kurrum Tungi dam situated in North Waziristan Agency has 83.4 mw power production capacity. Project requires four years construction period after completion of formalities.
The construction activities are in progress at 122mw Keyal Khwar Hydro power project situated in Dasu district. Evaluation of bids is under progress in 4.4 mw Naulang Dam situated at Sunt, Balochistan. Construction period is three years.
A 1410mw Tarbela fourth extension situated at Swabi Khyber Pakhtunkhaw would be completed in 2017. Munda Dam (Mohmand Agency) having 740mw would be completed in 2020. 5.8mw capacity Bara Dam of 5.8 mw would be completed in four years after finalisation of detailed design.
The 25.5 mw Tank Zam Dam would be completed after four years of detailed engineering design.
The construction on 3600mw Kalabagh dam can be started after decision by the government.
Tendering of 600mw capacity Akhori Dam district (Attock) was awaited. The tendering of 600mw Shyok Dam (Attock) is awaited.
The technical due diligence of 665 mw Lower Palas Valley project is underway. Feasibility study of 496mw Lower Spat Gah and 80mw Phandar Dam is complete. Feasibility of 40 mw Basho is complete. No Objection Certificate (NoC) has been issued for producing 34.5mw Harpo dam project.
Feasibility study of 2800mw Pattan dam is complete. The feasibility study of 2800mw Thakot project and 500mw Tarbela 5th extension is in progress. Pre-feasibility of 501mw Middle Spat Gah, 157mw Upper Palas Valley Scheme and 398mw Middle Palas Valley Scheme is complete.
