Sales tax body to firm up recommendations

ISLAMABAD
The first meeting of the Sales Tax Committee, one of the three committees constituted by the government last week to facilitate talks and resolve issues facing the business community, was held at the FBR headquarters here on Monday to take up a host of Sales Tax related issues facing different sectors.
The meeting held with Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan, MNA & Parliamentary Secretary Finance, in the chair as convener of the Committee, discussed various suggestions and proposals put forward by the members of the Committee, and identified sectors with potential issues requiring threadbare discussions and deliberations in the coming sessions of the Committee on 6th and 7th of August.
Other participants of the meeting included Muhammad Ashraf Khan, Member (Inland Revenue) Operations, FBR, Ashfaq Tola of TRC/TAC, Asif Haroon of FCA, Asad Mashahdi, president of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Anjum Nisar, president of KCCI.
Chairing the meeting, Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan, MNA & Parliamentary Secretary Finance, said the government was keen to resolve the Sales Tax issues facing the business community and it was open to all suggestions and recommendations from the business community to facilitate them and ensure a business-friendly environment in the country.
He said the next meetings of the Committee would dilate on a host of Sales Tax related issues facing different sectors which had been identified in consultation with the business community.
He said the Committee would also hold sector-to-sector meetings and the recommendations of the Committee would be firmed up by 13th of August and presented to the government.
